Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SCS SB 850 -- BOARD OF OPTOMETRY

SPONSOR: Justus (Meiners)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special
Committee on Professional Registration and Licensing by a vote of
10 to 0.

This substitute requires the Board of Optometry within the
Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions, and Professional
Registration to give 10 days' notice of the time and place of its
semi-annual meetings for the examination of applicants for
registration and to transact other business. The board's
president or vice president will have the authority to call
additional meetings without the 10-day notice if sufficient
notice is given to the other board members and the public in the
same manner as required for a public meeting.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and
FY 2011.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the board needs to be able to
call emergency meetings while still being in compliance with the
Open Meetings and Records Law, commonly known as the Sunshine
Law.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Justus.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
